Dakota to Host Referendum Informational Meetings
Scheduled for March 13th and 16th at Dakota High School Cafeteria
For the past several years, the State of Illinois has reduced its funding to the Dakota School District impacting its educational programming and facility maintenance and upgrades. After over a year’s study and discussion, the Dakota School Board voted unanimously in December to place a referendum question on the April 4, 2017 election ballot that they believe will overcome the state's lack of funding and positively advance and secure the future of the school district and community. Proceeds from the referendum will be used to: 1) maintain/improve existing educational programming and 2) address significant facility upgrades by improving the learning environment, safety/security, energy conservation and cost savings.
This referendum is also unique in that there will be no increase to the total tax rate.
The Dakota School District will hold two meetings share information and answer questions regarding the April 4th referendum. The meetings will be held on Monday, March 13 and Thursday, March 16 at the Dakota High School cafeteria beginning at 7:00 p.m.
